Snow bridges provide protection from avalanches in the avalanche strating zone. The sliding snow cover is blocked by rectangular panels fixed to the ground by means of tension and compression anchor systems.
Our snow bridges are for snow thicknesses up to Dk 5,0 meters.
(Dk is the snow thickness).
The "B" and "Y" snow bridges are the most common.
The snow bridges are secured to the slope on both the upslope and downslope sides. Tension anchoring caters for up to 200 kN force, by means of injection anchors, whereas for up to 300 kN force, compression anchoring is used by means of injected posts or preinstalled ground plates.
Our snow bridges are designed in compliance with the Swiss "Guidelines for avalanche protection utilizing structures in the starting zone", 1990.
Our "B" and "Y" systems have gained the approval of the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), Davos, and are included in the lists of approved structures of the Swiss Agency for Environment, Forests and Landscape (SAEFL), Berne.
Snow bridges are normally preassembled and flown by helicopter directly to the building site. The shape and dimensions of the connecting elements between the above-ground structure and anchorages enable easy and fast insallation. The spaces between the single structures (4,0 - 4,5 m panels) are closed by means of connection structures, so as to form continuous rows.
We also provide staking, drilling and spacing templates in order to facilitate installation operations.
